Volvo V40 Airbag ECU Crash Data Reset Service – UK Postal Service

This service may be appropriate after a collision, deployed airbags or seat belt pretensioners, stored SRS crash/event data, or an airbag warning that remains after accident repairs. The original ECU must be otherwise operational and technically supported. Assessment establishes whether retaining it is appropriate; complete ECU replacement is not always necessary.

For compatible Volvo V40 MK2, approximately 2012–2019, airbag/SRS control modules with Volvo part number 31429510 / P31429510. The supplied promotional reference is T160711170391; the clean module photograph shows T163211170743. These references must not be assumed interchangeable.

Compatibility must be confirmed from your actual module label, hardware and condition. Not every V40 built during these years uses this ECU. Compare your original identification with the product information and photographs, and send a clear photograph of the complete label before purchasing if unsure.

1. Contact GEM to confirm compatibility or place your order.
2. Have your original SRS/airbag ECU removed following manufacturer safety procedures.
3. Package the electronic module in anti-static protection inside a strong, well-padded box.
4. Include your order number, contact details, vehicle information and diagnostic fault codes. Send it to GEM Electrical & Mechanical Repairs using tracked postage and the delivery details provided for your order.
5. We inspect the module, assess support and read/process its data where possible.
6. We reset stored crash/deployment data where supported and appropriate, and carry out applicable bench checks.
7. We securely return your original module using the applicable return-delivery service.
8. Have the module reinstalled and all required vehicle diagnostic and SRS checks completed.

Before removal, disconnect the vehicle battery and follow Volvo’s manufacturer safety procedures, including the specified waiting period. Have a suitably qualified technician remove and refit the SRS control module. Send only the electronic control module—not airbags, inflators or seat belt pretensioners.

Crash data reset addresses supported crash/event data stored in the module. It does not repair defective SRS components or guarantee that the airbag warning light will go out. Deployed or faulty airbags, seat belt pretensioners, impact sensors, damaged wiring, connector faults, occupancy sensors, low voltage, communication faults and other SRS diagnostic trouble codes require separate diagnosis and repair.

The vehicle must be correctly repaired after an accident before its airbag system is returned to service. After refitting, a qualified technician must perform the required diagnostic checks and any applicable coding, calibration or manufacturer procedures. Bench processing cannot verify the complete in-vehicle SRS system.
