Used ECU Replacement & Programming Support
GEM provides used ECU replacement and coding assessment for UK-wide postal, eligible remote and selected local on-site jobs for suitable vehicles where a replacement engine control unit or module needs fitting and configuration.
A used ECU must usually match the vehicle closely and may require cloning, coding, immobiliser adaptation or configuration. We can check the part details, fault symptoms and practical coding options before replacement work proceeds.

Confirm the module before buying or booking
For private owners and garages: send the vehicle make, model and year, symptoms/fault codes, original and donor labels, and whether the original communicates. GEM checks compatibility, explains the repair/cloning/programming route, then confirms the quote and arrangements.
Suitable module work is handled by post. Complete-vehicle procedures are assessed for remote support through an equipped garage first, with selected local on-site work by arrangement if appropriate. There is no standard vehicle drop-off.

Used ECU Replacement & Coding FAQs
Can I fit a used ECU to my car?
Sometimes, but compatibility and immobiliser data matter. Contact us with the part numbers and vehicle details before fitting.
Does a used ECU always need coding?
Many used ECUs need coding, cloning or adaptation before the vehicle will start or function correctly.
Can you check if my ECU needs repair instead?
Yes. We can inspect ECU faults and advise whether repair, cloning or replacement is more practical.
Choose the replacement route before buying a donor
Postal ECU cloning and manufacturer programming have different requirements. Read the used ECU compatibility guide and send the original and proposed replacement labels. A used ECU cannot be assumed reusable, and the cheapest donor is not necessarily a suitable one.
Choose your postal module service
Read the service scope, order online and provide module details at checkout. Your paid-order email explains what to send. For an uncertain job, ask GEM before ordering.
Buying a replacement module?
Cloning, electronic repair and OEM programming are different routes. If the complete vehicle must be connected, GEM checks remote programming through your garage first; selected mobile/on-site support in Birmingham and surrounding West Midlands areas may be available by arrangement. Compare the programming and postal options, and send both module details before buying a donor where possible.
