Water ingress, corrosion, burnt components, failed drivers, internal relays and EEPROM/data corruption may be assessable. The severity and location of the damage determine whether repair or a data-recovery attempt is possible.

Compatibility and module identification

Compatibility should be confirmed using the part number, hardware number, software version and diagnostic identification where relevant. MCU, EEPROM and flash configuration, immobiliser generation and vehicle architecture can affect cloning support. Matching the casing or connectors alone is not enough.

Repair before unnecessary replacement

Where appropriate, retaining the original module can preserve vehicle-matched configuration, avoid an incompatible donor and reduce some coding work or overall cost. Repair is not always possible or cheaper than replacement; assessment determines the sensible route.

Realistic testing and warranty limits

Not every ECU or BCM fault is repairable. External wiring, power supplies, grounds, sensors and CAN/network faults can imitate an internal module failure. Replacement units may still need coding, programming, configuration or immobiliser/security adaptation. Bench testing cannot establish that the complete vehicle is fault-free. Can you repair any ECU or BCM?

Can I send my ECU or BCM by post?

Yes. Contact GEM with the vehicle details, symptoms and module label first. Once the service and delivery details are confirmed, securely package the electronic module and send it using tracked postage.

How do I know whether my BCM is faulty?

Body-function problems or a communication code do not prove an internal BCM failure. Vehicle wiring, power supplies, grounds, connected components and CAN/network faults may need checking before the module is removed.

Can you clone an ECU or BCM?

Where technically supported, relevant configuration, security and vehicle-specific data can be transferred from a readable original to a suitable donor. Compatibility and data condition must be checked first.

Do I need to send the original module?

Yes for assessment of your existing unit, and normally for original-to-donor data transfer. Tell us before ordering if the original is missing or unreadable.

Can you repair a module with no communication?

Sometimes. No communication can arise from an internal fault, but external wiring, power or network faults can produce the same symptom. The cause and repairability need assessment.

Do you repair water-damaged ECUs?

We assess water ingress and corrosion where practical. Extensive damage, damaged memory or previous repair attempts may prevent a reliable repair or data recovery.

Will a repaired module need coding?

Retaining the original module may preserve its configuration, but coding, programming, calibration or immobiliser/security adaptation can still be necessary. This must be confirmed for the actual vehicle and procedure.

Can I send a donor ECU with the original?

Yes, when cloning or data transfer has been agreed and the donor is suitable. Send both label photographs first, mark the units ORIGINAL and DONOR, and pack them separately.

How long does ECU or BCM repair take?
