Description
BCM & ECU DIAGNOSTIC / REPAIR SERVICE
UK-wide postal assessment · Local diagnostic enquiries · Repair, clone and diagnose where supported
Send your ECU, BCM or compatible vehicle electronic control module to GEM Electrical & Mechanical Repairs for professional diagnosis, assessment and repair where technically possible.
Supported service enquiries
BCM internal component, relay/output, power and communication faults; engine ECU PCB, driver and power-supply faults; water/corrosion assessment; and other compatible body, gateway, comfort, communication or instrument-related electronics. Enquiries are welcome across all makes and models, but support is confirmed for the actual module.
What you need to send
- Your original module and complete label photographs
- Vehicle details, symptoms and diagnostic codes
- Order/contact details and previous repair or programming history
- A compatible donor only when cloning or transfer has been agreed
Assessment and agreed work
- Visual and supported bench testing
- Findings and proposed repair scope
- Authorised repair or separately agreed cloning/data transfer
- Applicable bench retest and return of supplied modules
The displayed price follows our existing ECU/BCM testing-and-repair service rate. It is not a fixed promise to repair every fault. Confirm the initial scope and price with GEM before ordering or posting. The final repair cost depends on the confirmed fault, parts and procedure; any additional chargeable work needs your agreement before we proceed.
Cloning, data recovery, donor sourcing or additional programming may require a separate quotation. No replacement or donor module is included.
How the postal service works
- Contact GEM with the vehicle make, model, year, symptoms and diagnostic codes.
- Send clear module-label photographs and part, hardware and software references where available.
- Confirm the work and delivery details; have the module removed safely according to manufacturer procedures and package it securely.
- Post the electronic module using tracked delivery with your order and contact details enclosed.
- We inspect, test and diagnose the supported module using professional diagnostic and electronics equipment.
- Repair, cloning or data transfer is carried out only where technically possible and authorised.
- The unit receives the applicable bench retest; full in-vehicle operation still needs checking after installation.
- We securely return the supplied module; arrange refitting and any required coding, adaptation or vehicle checks.
Compatibility and cloning
Compatibility should be confirmed using the part number, hardware number, software version and diagnostic identification where relevant. MCU, EEPROM and flash configuration, immobiliser generation and vehicle architecture can affect cloning support. Matching the casing or connectors alone is not enough.
Cloning normally requires the original unit and a suitable donor, with supported original data readable. Do not send a donor or assume a transfer is included unless we have agreed that procedure.
Turnaround and return delivery
Fast turnaround where possible, subject to diagnosis, parts, authorisation and workload. Ask for the current estimate. You pay for tracked inbound postage; the existing checkout return-shipment fee and available cover apply to returning the supplied modules.
UK-wide availability and local diagnostics
Our UK-wide postal ECU and BCM repair service accepts suitable modules from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Customers in London, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Bristol, Newcastle upon Tyne, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Swansea and Belfast use the same postal process as customers in other UK cities, towns and rural areas. Postal coverage does not imply a local workshop or mobile attendance in each city.
GEM is based in Birmingham and the West Midlands. Selected mobile/on-site vehicle diagnosis by GEM at the vehicle location can be arranged where the job, location and availability allow, including enquiries from Wolverhampton, Walsall, Coventry, Dudley and Solihull. If the vehicle cannot be properly assessed on the bench alone, we explain which in-vehicle checks are needed.
Important service limitations
Not every ECU or BCM fault is repairable. External wiring, power supplies, grounds, sensors and CAN/network faults can imitate an internal module failure. Replacement units may still need coding, programming, configuration or immobiliser/security adaptation. Bench testing cannot establish that the complete vehicle is fault-free.
Vehicle diagnosis, removal/refitting, external wiring repairs, coding and calibration are outside the postal bench service unless explicitly agreed. Do not send unrelated vehicle components.
Promotional images are representative, not a promise that every unit can be repaired. Any workmanship warranty applies to the specific repair and period agreed in writing, subject to the service terms; no universal successful outcome or warranty period is implied.
Our service terms and conditions apply.
Frequently asked questions
Can you repair any ECU or BCM?
No. Repair depends on the module design, fault, component availability and condition. We assess supported units before recommending repair, data transfer or replacement.
Can I send my ECU or BCM by post?
Yes. Contact GEM with the vehicle details, symptoms and module label first. Once the service and delivery details are confirmed, securely package the electronic module and send it using tracked postage.
Can you clone an ECU or BCM?
Where technically supported, relevant configuration, security and vehicle-specific data can be transferred from a readable original to a suitable donor. Compatibility and data condition must be checked first.
Can I send a donor ECU with the original?
Yes, when cloning or data transfer has been agreed and the donor is suitable. Send both label photographs first, mark the units ORIGINAL and DONOR, and pack them separately.
How long does ECU or BCM repair take?
Fast turnaround is available where possible. Timing depends on diagnosis, module condition, parts, approvals and workload. Ask for the current estimate before sending; no universal completion time is promised.
